Despicable Me Movie Review

Friday, July 9th, 2010

What ambition, what determination, what a plan and what a charming story. For being such a villainous tale, this movie is very cute, funny, endearing, lighthearted and fun. It’s not exactly a roll on the floor comedy but it does have good laughs throughout with a pinch of near tear jerking moments. The story is entertaining and the characters themselves are just as entertaining as the story. Steve Carell was excellent in the lead role and you could ……. READ FULL REVIEW

The Last Airbender Movie Review

Friday, July 2nd, 2010

M. Night Shaymalan has always been one of my favorite contemporary writers/directors and knowing that he is of Indian birth made it psychologically interesting (I have thing about analyzing people) that he made all the villains from the Fire Nation Indian. Dev Patel did a very good job at playing a dark and brooding young Prince hell bent on making his distant father proud of him,. But I have to tell you that his choice of this film as his follow-up project after Slum Dog Millionaire was surprising. Aasif Mandvi played Commander Zhao so well that I nearly forgot how much I’ve enjoyed his comedic turns in movies such as Ghost Town.  READ FULL REVIEW

The Twilight Saga: Eclipse Movie Review

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Eclipse, The Twilight Saga’s third movie, was much less than what I expected. I feel it could have been better in different aspects. In the commercials they show an immense amount of action as if the movie was based on the fight … very wrong, the movie is more like a soap opera. The main theme is basically, as we all know, Bella and her die hard vampire love. All her loved ones including Edward and Jacob continue to try to convince her that she is better off staying human, but she claims she knows what she wants. READ FULL REVIEW

Movie Review: Toy Story 3

Friday, June 18th, 2010

As I have mentioned in reviews of the past, I am the mother of three (3) boys ranging in age from 17 to 8, thus I have not only seen all of the Toy Story installments, I’m a big fan. That said, if like me, you’ve seen the others, you must go see Toy Story 3. It is visually so much more exciting than the other two, you will feel like you’re visiting old family friends and it will bring you full circle with Andy and the whole gang. READ FULL REVIEW

Movie Review: Jonah Hex

Friday, June 18th, 2010

So here we go with another comic book “hero” rendition for the big screen. This time it’s a DC Comics character and he’s played by the currently very popular Josh Brolin. He’s been busy lately doing all kinds of roles from cowboy to President so it should be no surprise that he takes the lead in this one as Jonah Hex. Can I tell you that the movie needed him? He helped carry the movie and the movie needed carrying. I don’t think you could have gotten a better performance given the context and content. READ FULL REVIEW

The Karate Kid Movie Review

Friday, June 11th, 2010

When I first heard of this remake, like most people, I was not exactly excited about it. I am a fan of the original and I thought that it would not qualify as prospective remake material. I mean really, a remake of the Karate Kid? I just didn’t think so, especially if casted with the very young Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan whose primary genre is action comedies. This would be a more serious role for him. Can we take Jackie seriously in a movie? And would a 12 year old be able to carry the story? I say yes! I have read some other opinions on this film and boy do they bash this movie. READ FULL REVIEW

Splice Movie Review

Friday, June 4th, 2010

It’s Summer time again and I’m here waiting for the first blockbuster movie. Iron Man 2 was suppose to start the Summer out with a bang, but the movie ended up, but for Mickey Rourke’s performance, being at best mediocre. Next, the Prince of Persia, according to its trailer, was suppose to take the Indian Jones type adventure movie and propel it to the next level, but it managed to do nothing of the sort. The best movie I’ve seen so far this Summer is surprisingly, Shrek: Forever After. Next came Splice. I wasn’t expecting great things from Splice, but with producer Guillermo del Toro attached to the project, I was at least expecting a decent movie. READ FULL REVIEW

Sex and The City 2 Review

They’re back! My girls are back and better than ever! I have to tell you folks, I can’t get enough of them and I know that a lot of you out there feel the same way. My Honey, Cine Marcos, said that this movie was even better than the first one and I believe that I must agree. READ FULL REVIEW

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Review

Friday, May 28th, 2010

Summer films in general are well known for their undeveloped non sense screenplays; however at the same time those same summer films manage to overcome the grant majority of their flaws by displaying and extravaganza of action and special effects making those films highly entertaining, but not memorable. This is the case of Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, a highly anticipated film that fells short in challenging audience’s brains with a weak story line, but that manages to produce enough entertainment to make it an acceptable summer movie. Shrek Forever After Review

Friday, May 21st, 2010

The original Shrek surpassed expectations and created a group of charming characters that became the face of Dreamworks Animation. A decent second film that saw the addition of franchise’s more popular character Puss in Boots, which became the favorite of many. The sequel was followed three years later by a disappointing third entry in the series, putting in jeopardy the continuity of our lovable ogre in the big screen. However with the help of faithful fans and a super healthy box office run, paving the road to a fourth and final chapter, that manages to deliver the laughs, charm and adventure missing since the series was release, nevertheless it is still lacking the originality of the first film. .
