Jody Moreno: I’m the director. You’re a stunt guy. We need to keep it super profesh.
Colt Seavers: Profesh is my middle name.
Jody Moreno: You said your middle name was Danger.
I’ve got to say that when I first heard about this movie my expectations were low. It seemed a bit contrived with a splash of cheesy. But then looking at the cast I figured that it can’t be all that bad. I was actually intrigued to see Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt work together. Well, was I wrong. Yes, Ryan and Emily were fantastic but every aspect of this film uplifted every other aspect of this film and this film has it all. Are you looking for action, check, looking for decent thrills, check, how about an endearing love story, check, looking for eye candy, in every possible way, check, you need to have some kind of a storyline, yeap sure, check, oh and laughs, very much check, an awesome cameo moment, you got it, and I think last but definitely and by far not least, stunts, check check check check check. This film is a great example of why I love to go to the movies. If the comedy in a film can make me cry from laughter, you win. If I catch myself smiling throughout a majority of the show, you win. If I fall in love with one of the characters, in this case Ms. Blunt, you win. Speaking of Emily, I want to mention that the way I feel about her character in this movie reminded me of how I felt about her in the movie The Adjustment Bureau. If you have seen that one, you might know what I mean. She is just so spunky, quick witted, and attractive that you got to love her. If you happen to love Ryan and his body . . . of work, well then this is a must watch for sure. Same goes for Aaron Taylor-Johnson who does a great job with his role. This movie was just so much fun.
In life, we are surrounded by countless unsung heroes. One such hero is the stuntman/stuntwoman. Potentially sacrificing life and limb for the sake of a movie is not for everyone, especially the faint of heart. An introduction to this film brought up the point that there is no stuntperson or stunt crew category for many major film awards like the Oscars for example. This is a crime. I understand there are many, many contributors to film making without which a film cannot be made, but this one is such an important piece that it should be close to the top. Another great aspect of this film is that we get a glimpse of all the goings on behind the camera when it comes to movie making, more specifically action movie making, and it is very cool. I mean this really is a movie about making a movie with a focus on stunts. Count me in. The cinematography is good cause it has to be in this genre. Even the music used in the film was slick. And the cameo, well, some of the younger crowd might not get it, but for the seasoned viewers, it was a real treat. The best treat of the film though is probably having David Leitch at the helm. A Director, Producer, and Stuntman himself, having directed such films as Atomic Blonde, Deadpool 2, and Bullet Train, who better for this movie. A stuntman might typically give a thumbs up after completing a stunt to show that he/she is okay. Well, forgive me for a moment of cheesiness, this movie is a big thumbs up for me.
