2012 NYFF Princess Bride Reunion

The Film Society of Lincoln Center and the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences announced today the participants of a cast reunion as part of the 25th Anniversary presentation of THE PRINCESS BRIDE during the 2012 New York Film Festival.

Presented in association with the Film Society of Lincoln Center’s New Wave young patron’s group to celebrate the 25th Anniversary and all-new Blu-ray release of the classic storybook romance, the event will feature a screening of a newly struck and pristine 35mm print of the film at Alice Tully Hall on Tuesday, October 2 at 9:00PM. Director Rob Reiner will be joined on stage with cast members Billy Crystal, Cary Elwes, Carol Kane, Mandy Patinkin, Chris Sarandon and Robin Wright for a post-screening conversation. The print is provided by the Academy Film Archive and was created as part of the recently announced Film-to-Film initiative, a project that accelerates the work of the Archive to acquire and create new film masters and prints from at-risk elements. THE PRINCESS BRIDE 25th Anniversary Blu-ray will be available October 2 courtesy of MGM and Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

Scott Foundas, Associate Program Director, The Film Society of Lincoln Center, said, “We’re delighted to screen Rob Reiner and William Goldman’s wry, irreverent and thoroughly enchanting fable on this historic anniversary, from a beautiful 35mm print, in the presence of so many members of its original creative team.”

Few if any films of the 1980s have been more beloved by successive generations of moviegoers than THE PRINCESS BRIDE. Directed by Rob Reiner (THIS IS SPINAL TAP) and written by legendary screenwriter William Goldman (BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID) based on Goldman’s 1973 novel, THE PRINCESS BRIDE is a classic tale of love and adventure as read by a kindly grandfather (Peter Falk) to his ill grandson. Featuring swordplay, an evil prince, a giant and a beautiful princess, the film showcases a peerless ensemble cast including Cary Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, Christopher Guest, Wallace Shawn, Carol Kane, André the Giant and Billy Crystal as Miracle Max. Rock and roll writer and performer Willy DeVille composed the Academy Award-nominated theme song, “Storybook Love.”

Noted Patrick Harrison, the Academy’s New York Program Director, “The fact that THE PRINCESS BRIDE has stood the test of time is testament to the film’s timeless screenplay adapted by William Goldman, multi-talented director, actor and producer Rob Reiner and stellar ensemble cast. The Academy is proud to be a part of the 25th anniversary celebration and the 50th anniversary of the New York Film Festival.”

The 17-day New York Film Festival highlights the best in world cinema, featuring top films from celebrated filmmakers as well as fresh new talent. The selection committee, chaired by Peña also includes: Melissa Anderson, Contributor, Village Voice; Scott Foundas, Associate Program Director, The Film Society of Lincoln Center; Todd McCarthy, Chief Film Critic, The Hollywood Reporter; and Amy Taubin, Contributing Editor, Film Comment and Sight and Sound.
