Funny People Movie Review

Friday, July 31st, 2009

America is founded on such principles as life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, right? Well, you just got to be careful that you don’t abuse your liberty and that your pursuit of happiness doesn’t affect your life. For George Simmons (Adam Sandler), fame and fortune took him to a world where he lived friendless, detached, and lonely. He pursued his happiness and became a larger than life superstar but it resulted in his alienation from life. His recent diagnosis was the wake up call for him to realize just how empty his life really was. Fame, fortune, and possessions will not make you happy in the long run because they are unfulfilling. This dramatic turn of events is even more dramatic when dealing with a person who spent his life making people laugh. It is painful to see a depressed comedian.

Here is the poster for Magnolia Pictures upcoming film ” The Burning Plain” starring Charlize Theron and Kim Basinger.

The Burning Plain will be available on VOD August 21, 2009 and hits theatres September 18, 2009.

Burning Plain

From writer/director Guillermo Arriaga comes THE BURNING PLAIN, a romantic mystery about a woman on the edge who takes an emotional journey back to the defining moment of her life. Oscar-winner Charlize Theron plays Sylvia, a beautiful restaurant manager whose cool, professional demeanor masks the sexually charged storm within. When a stranger from Mexico confronts her with her mysterious past, Sylvia is launched into a journey through space and time that inextricably connects her to these disparate characters, all of whom are grappling with their own romantic destinies.

In Mexico , a young motherless girl, Maria ( Tessa Ia ), lives happily with her father and his best friend until a tragic accident changes it all. In the New Mexico border town of Las Cruces , two teenagers, Mariana (Jennifer Lawrence) and Santiago (JD Pardo), find love in the aftermath of their parents’ sudden deaths. In an abandoned trailer, a housewife, Gina (Oscar-winner Kim Basinger), embarks on a passionate affair that will put Sylvia and the others on a collision course with the explosive power of forbidden love.

Casi Divas Poster

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Here is the poster for MAYA ENTERTAINMENT film “Casi Divas”. The comedy is set to open in theaters August 21, 2009.

Casi Divas is directed by Issa Lopez , starring Patricia Llaca, Julio Bracho, Maya Zapata, Ana Layeska, Diana Garcia, and Daniela Schmidt.

Casi Divas

Four beautiful and spirited young Mexican women from very different backgrounds join the national frenzy of a contest to determine the next film actress superstar. Fired by ambition, pride and desperate desire for overnight fame, they all face insurmountable odds, outrageous manipulation and fierce media hype, yet each learns in her own way that true victory lies in the journey, not the result.

With warmth, biting satire, and surprising honesty, Casi Divas explores the real-life passions that fuel the overheated excesses of show-business emotion, both on the audition stage and behind the scenes. How many lies do you have to tell about yourself to become famous? And just what happens to a woman who tells the truth?

Ironically exposing the telenovela formula of wish-fulfillment, Issa Lopez’s ensemble comedy deftly skewers the showy dream of a country united in fantasy and portrays the vibrant reality of a nation marked by deep divisions. Rich and poor, urban and rural, shy and flamboyant, cunning and innocent—the women of Casi Divas are a collection of contrasts; the film celebrates the vitality of their cultural collision with its exuberant visual style.
